On Tuesday, travelers will depart for Egypt.

Day 2

Once arrived in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, you’ll transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 3

Travelers will get their day started by heading to Old Cairo in the morning. Old Cairo is the original home of the Coptic Christians, one of the world’s oldest Christian denominations. Travelers will get to visit the Hanging Church (built in the 7th century), Abu Serga (believed to be where the Holy Family took refuge in Egypt), a Jewish synagogue, and one the oldest mosques in Cairo, Ibn Tulun. After seeing all these religious sites, stop at a local perfume shop, where you’ll explore a diverse collection of traditional and exotic scents, while learning about the art of perfume making. Lastly in the late afternoon, embark on a walking tour that takes you through Cairo’s historic center.

This morning, get ready to visit the iconic Pyramids of Giza, built during the 3rd and 4th dynasties of the Old Kingdom. Get an up-close view of the Great Pyramid, built for the Pharaoh Khufu, as well as the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. That’s not all, you’ll also be able to view the great Sphinx of Giza, the legendary statue with the head of a human and the body of a lion, amazingly carved out of a single piece of limestone. Continue with a visit to the splendid new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located near the iconic Pyramids of Giza. This state-of the-art museum houses the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Once you’re back at the hotel, don’t miss Gate 1 Travel’s optional Nile Dinner Cruise. Today is free for you to explore Cairo on your own or join the optional Full Day Alexandria tour. Discover the legendary city of Alexandria, a culturally rich seaside metropolis and Egypt’s second largest city. First visit the Roman amphitheater, then continue to the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a necropolis hewn into a cliff that consists of 3 levels, dating from the 2nd century AD. Finish with viewing the Roman triclinium, a funeral banquet hall to honor the dead. Then visit the Royal Jewelry Museum, where you’ll view precious artifacts, jewels, and jewelry of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty that ruled Egypt from 19th to the mid-20th century. The optional tour caps off the day with lunch at a local restaurant with beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Day 6

Today is where you’ll visit another city, Memphis. Memphis was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom, founded by Pharaoh Menes around 3100 BC. Today, the city stands as an open-air museum highlighted by a giant statue of Ramses II. Then, continue to Sakkara, the site of hundreds of tombs where you’ll view the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser, considered to be the oldest pyramid in Egypt. After seeing these ancient landmarks, stop for lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to carpet shop in the surrounding area. Finish the day by exploring Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Cairo’s most famous souk. Established in the 14th century, this vibrant market is a treasure trove of traditional crafts, jewelry, spices, textiles, antiques, and souvenirs.

Day 7

Travelers can spend this day at leisure in Cairo or join the optional Full Day Luxor with Flights. First transfer to the airport to get to Luxor. On arrival, you’ll begin the exploration of the magnificent West Bank. Visit the UNESCO listed Valley of the Kings, the necropolis of Thebes, and admire the tombs of Egypt’s pharaohs from the 18th to the 20th dynasties. Next, head to the mountainside Temple of Hatshepsut, a colonnaded structure surrounded by cliffs and learn about the life of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s longest-reigning female ruler. Conclude the optional tour at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III. These imposing figures, each towering at 600 feet high, were originally designed to guard his mortuary temple. That night, return to Cairo by flight.

Spend your last day in Cairo at leisure or join another optional tour where you’ll visit the Civilization Museum & Citadel. First visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, where you’ll be amazed by its extensive collection of more than 50,000 artifacts, depicting the several stages of the development of Egyptian civilization from the Predynastic period to the modern age. Next, visit a jewelry shop. Browse the extensive collection of uniquely crafted gold jewelry and notice the array of distinctive cartouches, local symbols of good luck and protection from evil. Then, visit the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive structure, located in central Cairo is a medieval Islamic fortification. Lunch is included in this tour. Everything about this river cruise was Five Star! The cabin was much larger than I remember from before, with plenty of cupboard and drawer space, and the bathroom more generous in size than I remember. The meals were all top-notch and the servers and crew were all amazing. They were skilled, but also cheerful and willing to do anything to make us feel relaxed and having a good time. And our tour manager made everything such fun.

Day 1

On Tuesday, travelers will depart for Greece.

Day 2

The next day, travelers will arrive in Athens. You’ll meet our representative to connect to your domestic flight to Heraklion, capital city of Crete. Once you’ve touched down in Heraklion, arrive and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure, until 7 PM, where you’ll begin an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager. Gate 1 Travel highly recommends that you select a flight that will arrive no later than 4:30 PM.

Day 3

The next day, embark on a walking tour of Heraklion. Travelers will get to view the harbor, the Venetian fortress of Koules, the Byzantine Church of Saint Titus, and Lions Square. Once finished with that, visit the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, boasting a magnificent collection of artifacts from the Minoan civilization including finds from Knossos, dating back to the Bronze Age. Walk through exhibits covering over 5,000 years of Crete’s history. The rest of your afternoon is at leisure.

Day 4

Today, travel west through the scenic Cretan countryside to the historic town of Rethymnon. Begin at the heart of Rethymnon’s Old Town, a labyrinth of narrow streets and Venetian architecture. View the imposing Fortezza, a 16th century fortress perched atop a hill overlooking the sea, and the Rimondi Fountain, a symbol of the town’s Venetian heritage. Then, visit the workshop of Giorgos Hatziparaschos, a traditional phyllo master, renowned for making ultra-thin phyllo dough by hand. Observe a demonstration and admire the precision and skill of the artisan. Conclude with tasting freshly baked phyllo dough pastries. Lastly, head to Melidoni Cave (available April – October) a geological wonder steeped in myth and legend. Admire the rock-formations and underground chambers before returning to your hotel.

Day 5

Today is free to explore Heraklion at your own pace, or you can join the optional full day Santorini tour (available May – October). If you do participate in the tour, you’ll board a ferry to Santorini in the morning. First begin with a visit to the famous clifftop village of Oia. Then stroll along the picturesque narrow alleys and marvel at its blue-domed churches, white-washed cave-like houses, and astonishing views. Conclude the tour at Fira, the capital of Santorini. Travelers will get to wander through the famous pebbled streets of the island before boarding the ferry back to Crete.

Gate 1 Travel also offers another optional full day tour (available November – April) where you’ll visit Gergeri & the Zaros Villages with Olive Mill. Start this tour by traveling through the picturesque landscapes of Crete to Gergeri Village to visit the Women’s Pastry Cooperative. They’ll treat you to some freshly baked sweets with coffee. Next, head to Zaros Village, located on the foothills of Mount Psiloritis. Explore the village known for its trout farms and pristine Lake Zaros. In the afternoon, tour the family-run Olive Mill to learn about the olive-oil making process, from harvesting the olives to pressing and production techniques that have been passed down through generations. View the groves and mill, then enjoy an olive oil tasting featuring locally produced extra virgin olive oils, celebrated for their distinctive flavor and aroma. Once finished, head back to your hotel.

Day 6

If you’re a history buff, then today is for you. Begin your day by exploring the ruins of the great Palace of Knossos, the ceremonial and political center of the ancient Minoan civilization and residence of the mythical King Minos. As you wander through the labyrinthine ruins, view the original throne of Minos, the mystifying sanctuaries, and the luxurious domestic quarters of the royal family. Continue to the picturesque village of Archanes, located on the slopes of Mt. Giouchtas. The village is famous for its typical Cretan architecture. Then visit a winery to learn about traditional winemaking and enjoy the taste of local wines. Finally return to Heraklion and enjoy your free time this afternoon by relaxing on one of the sandy beaches along the Mediterranean before dinner tonight.

Day 7

Travelers can spend this day at leisure in Heraklion or join Gate 1 Travel’s optional Chania tour. Start your day across Crete’s northern coast before arriving in Chania. Along the way, stop at the ancient site of Aptera, offering sweeping views over Souda Bay, home to the U.S. Naval Support Air Force base. Once arrived in Chania, explore the old town, a maze of narrow lanes lined with Venetian, Ottoman, and Neoclassical architecture. Stroll along the 14th-century Venetian harbor, with its lighthouse and waterfront cafes, and discover the covered market bustling with local produce, crafts, and traditional delicacies. Enjoy free time for lunch at one of the many seaside tavernas. Then return to Heraklion in the late afternoon.

Spend your last day in Heraklion at your leisure or join Gate 1 Travel’s optional Spinalonga Boat tour. Travelers will start their day with a boat ride to the island of Spinalonga, with its 16th century Venetian fortress. Tour the island and then head to Elounda, a former fishing village, located at the Gulf of Mirabello for lunch and exploration. In the afternoon, travel to Agios Nikolaos. View Lake Voulismeni and take a walking tour of the town, before returning to Heraklion. Tonight, at dinner bid farewell to your Tour Manager.

Day 9

Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Athens and connect to your international departure flight. Passengers should select flights that depart Athens no earlier than 12 PM

On Tuesday, travelers will depart for Mallorca.

The next day, travelers will arrive in Palma De Mallorca, situated on the South Coast of one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Gate 1 Travel encourages you to spend the date at your leisure. At 7 PM, your tour will officially begin with an orientation meeting with your tour manager, then followed by a welcome reception. Gate 1 Travel recommends that travelers select flights that arrive no later than 5 PM, so this orientation isn’t missed.

This morning, travelers will embark on a panoramic walking tour of Palma De Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Islands. The city’s name originates from the Roman camp named Palmaria in 123 BC on the remains of earlier settlements. First, see the La Seu Cathedral, a landmark that towers over the city on a hill overlooking the sea. Then, marvel in the Moorish fortress of La Almudaina Royal Palace and walk on the cobblestone streets of El Casco Antiguo, Palma’s medieval Old Town. Last, grab a quick bite to eat as you’ll taste Ensaimada, the local pastry of Mallorca made with pork lard.

The next morning, you’ll leave Palma de Mallorca to drive to the charming fishing port town of Portocolom. Travelers will have enough time to explore once arrived, while also having time for lunch on their own. In the early afternoon, head towards Algaida to visit the historic windmills including the beautifully preserved Molino d’en Xina. Continue to Gordiola and visit the famed glassblowing museum to witness artisans practicing this ancient craft. Once you are finished at the museum, enjoy a local winery for a tasting of Mallorca’s wines. Finally, end your day in Felanitx and admire panoramic views from the top of Sant Salvador Monastery. See the 13th Century Castell de Santueri, a castle carved into the rock of the clifftop.

Today is free for travelers to explore Palma at your own pace. If unsure of what you want to do, consider participating in the optional Full Day Valldemossa & Deià Tour. You’ll visit the picturesque mountain village and the Royal Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa before continuing to see the breathtaking views of Deia. Then return to Palma in the afternoon and savor dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 6

Once again, depart Palma early in the morning and drive north to Inca. You’ll spend time discovering the historical commercial center of the island, known as the capital of leather goods. After visiting Inca, continue north to the Roman and medieval town of Alcudia. Tour the town and its impressive, well-preserved medieval city walls. And make sure to take advantage of the Alcudia Market with free time for shopping, sampling local goods, and soaking up the lively atmosphere. Finally, you’ll make your way to Pollenca, where you’ll have lunch on your own at one of the square-side cafes.

Day 7

Travelers can spend this day at leisure in Palama or join Gate 1 Travel’s optional Full Day Hams Caves & Manacor Tour. You’ll see the other worldly stalactites and the beautiful subterranean blue “Venetian Lake.” Then visit the “Round Cave,” home to a lush garden with its own microclimate and numerous bird species native to Mallorca. Once you finish seeing these marvelous natural wonders, continue to Manacor for a walking tour of the town. After the walking tour, head to a local farm and restaurant for lunch where you enjoy the authentic local flavors.

The last day in Palama is free for you to explore. You can also join the optional Full Day Sóller Valley tour, if you’d like. Travelers will be brought to Sóller, with its gorgeous Art Nouveau house, Can Prunera. Next, visit a family-run oil mill and discover the secrets of olive oil production. End your time in the town by heading to its Port, known for stunning views.
